"Amazing work, I'm speechless and about to cry and all that. These pieces are truly beautiful!"
Passionate storytellers who started out telling their tales with pens and performances arrive at picking up the camera. BATTLECRY breaks into guerilla filmmaking - telling new narratives through a new lens, piercing into the personality & pulse of uncovered subjects. Ever-evolving, we are ecstatic to experiment as students of this new medium. Artists taking the next step by painting pictures that have escalated beyond the page and the stage - and are now - in motion.

This project dropped in our laps while filming The Faces of Vday on location at The Rubber Rose (www.therubberrose.com). The boutique owners were so pleased with the work that we were doing, they tapped BATTLECRY to document their upcoming Hip Hop Conference in May 2008. We are honored to be filming such an important event in music history.

UPDATES
5.5.08 - We just wrapped filming in San Diego yesterday at about 7:30pm! The weekend was unforgettable, BATTLECRY is doing everything in our power to keep the spirit alive on this end. We are still in awe about how authentic each and every one of these women were - artist and audience. We are back in Los Angeles now updating our editing equipment to be able to put this marvelous piece together into a final cut that will do justice to a weekend that the world needs to witness. If media is as powerful as we believe it to be - then with this piece we intend to put these artists ON BLAST so to speak. This documentary will do its part to uplift, amplify, expose, and proliferate the celebration and transformation we captured in over 8 hours of raw footage as we let the cameras roll this weekend (!). We hope to have more developments along the tedious and critical road of post-production updated in the next 1-2 weeks. In the meantime, we invite you to keep in touch.
5.26.08 - Phase 1 of updating our editing equipment is complete! Phase 2 is now in process. What does that all mean in plain English? That we are working feverishly in the post-production of this piece DAILY. Your continued patience is greatly appreciated, it takes times for these things, but know that when it all comes together - it will be worth the wait. As soon as we know something, you will know something too.
As of now, the Teaser/Trailer/Sneak Preview slated to be ready by Tuesday June 10th, 2008! Stay tuned and keep in touch.
6.11.08 - If you tuned in yesterday looking for the Teaser/Trailer/Sneak Preview, we apologize for the disappointment, not quite there yet. But we are proud to report that progress is being made. Our fearless leader, Wendy Maples - Community Organizer for the main San Diego performance of The Vagina Monologues (February 7, 2008) decided to enhance our stage production with a world premiere documentary that takes viewers into the heart of "SDVagimons2008". When she brought BATTLECRY in as co-producers of the show, she also bestowed the privilege of this exciting video project upon us.
The Faces of Vday explores the fascinating behind the scenes details that brought about a groundbreaking artistic and philanthropic experience in the San Diego, California community. Centered upon Vday's global movement to end violence against women and girls, we follow organizers and participants on a journey from Arizona State University in 1999 to San Diego State University to Step Up Theatre to InnerMission Productions to BATTLECRY, all the way to the New Orleans Superdome. Witness the work, generosity, context, vision, sweat, charities, sacrifice, solidarity, permission slips, dedication, risk, fundraising, integrity, bonding, bridges, sisterhood, and diversity embraced by this ultimate all-ages and all-races collaborative rendering of Eve Ensler's: The Vagina Monologues on February 7, 2008 - and beyond.
